City of Atlanta Fire Station 36 is a modern 14,000 SF facility designed with a strong focus on sustainability and community engagement. The project prioritized water conservation by selecting native and drought-tolerant species, eliminating the need for irrigation, and using low-flow plumbing fixtures. Additionally, the station includes low-emitting interior materials and finishes to ensure a healthier indoor environment. To maximize natural light, large windows and sun tunnel skylights were incorporated throughout the building. The station also has a Green Cleaning Policy and Integrated Pest Management Plan in place to protect the health of its occupants. The facility features a mix of residential and recreational spaces for firefighters, including dormitory spaces, a laundry room, kitchen, dining room, day room, fitness studio, and outdoor covered patio. It also contains offices and a community room open to the public, where educational signage about the sustainability features is displayed. The parking areas were minimized, and open spaces were maximized, with 20% of the parking spaces being EV-ready.
The project is targeting a minimum of Silver certification under LEED BD+C: New Construction v4.
