Meet Epsten Group’s New Sustainability Specialist

Tanvi Lonkar moved to the United States from Mumbai, India in 2014 to pursue degrees in Psychology and Studio Art in a study abroad program with Georgia College and State University. Her passion for sustainability ignited when she became involved with the Sustainability and Earth clubs. After graduation she earned her Master’s degree in Architecture in Sustainable Design at the University of Florida. Her favorite course was Studio in Sustainable Design where her class proposed 900 housing units on an empty piece of land in Singapore while keeping it sustainable. With three months left to graduate, she decided to apply for a position with her dream company – Epsten Group. She was offered the opportunity and has been working as a Sustainability Specialist since August, 2021.

Tanvi works as a primary reviewer for projects pursuing the LEED certification. She looks at a project from a holistic perspective to ensure the appropriate LEED prerequisites and credits are met. The categories that LEED rewards project teams on include, Location & Transportation, Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Material & Resources, Indoor Environmental Qualities, and Innovation. Her favorite projects to work on are driven by project teams that have a clear vision, organized documents, and creative initiatives.

With a passion for knowledge, Tanvi considers herself to be a lifelong learner. She likes to dance, workout, practice yoga, and she also creates oil paintings. She describes working at Epsten group as, “Inspiring”. She loves working with people who are very passionate about what they do, take responsibility for their own work, and offer opportunities to learn more about the Green Building Industry. She feels grateful to work for a company that has values that align with her own – celebrating diversity, inclusion, and equity with a focus on flexibility and work-life balance to encourage creativity and prosperity.
