A Visit with One of Our Professional Sustainability Reviewers

One of Monica Martelly’s first experiences in the sustainability industry involved working on the impressive Kendeda Living Building project during her time at Georgia Institute of Technology. While studying at Georgia Tech, Monica focused on courses related to sustainable infrastructure. She also joined campus sustainability organizations to garner more insight into the field. After graduating from Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, she immediately joined the Epsten Group team as a Sustainability Reviewer.

Martelly values Epsten Group’s culture, structure, and values. The work schedule flexibility allows her to balance her time and energy between cherished moments with loved ones and fulfilling work in the sustainable building industry. Her guiding philosophy for green buildings to truly reduce negative impacts on the environment is that critical attention must be given to the use of appropriate materials, reduction in water consumption, and the consideration of long-term sustainability goals when contemplating other design choices. Her favorite projects are those that clearly prioritize sustainability goals and have initiated green building consultants from the beginning of the planning and design process.

Martelly wants to see our beautiful, diverse world survive and thrive. To her, sustainability is about a greater and long-term awareness of how our actions affect both people and the planet. She is passionate about sustainable and equitable infrastructure. She loves working with coworkers who share similar values as her. Beyond sustainability, Martelly finds joy in movement arts including dancing, yoga, and aerial arts.
